The Energetics Technology Center (ETC) serves as the technical partner to the American Center for Manufacturing & Innovation (ACMI) on the Maryland Energetics Innovation Hub (MEIH) – a new campus designed to modernize manufacturing and expand production capacity across the nation’s energetics enterprise.
While ACMI brings the infrastructure, capital, and real estate expertise to build the Hub, ETC brings the technical vision: shaping MEIH into a center where government, industry, and academic partners can collaborate to advance next-generation energetics technologies and strengthen the domestic manufacturing base that supports the warfighter.
ETC’s Role
As the Hub’s technical partner, ETC is responsible for ensuring MEIH delivers real operational impact, including:
- Bridging emerging technology with operational needs, helping ensure the capabilities developed at MEIH translate directly into requirements defined by the Department of War and its warfighters.
- Shaping the Hub’s technical direction, guiding investment and research priorities across core focus areas including high-performance computing, uncrewed systems, advanced synthesis, non-destructive evaluation, automation and AI-integrated processing, propulsion manufacturing, and energetics obsolescence.
- Creating opportunities for industry partners, connecting companies developing energetics-related capabilities with the resources, relationships, and infrastructure needed to scale from research to production.
- Growing the technical workforce, applying ETC’s deep experience in STEM talent development to help build the skilled, cleared workforce the Hub’s tenants will need.
Backed by Investment
Developed following a $50 million award from NSWC Indian Head Division to ACMI, MEIH is expected to draw substantial additional private-sector investment; reported at more than $200 million in private capital flowing into the Western Charles County Technology Corridor. The 2026 groundbreaking marked the start of a long-term effort to strengthen collaboration across the defense industrial base, positioning Southern Maryland as a leading center for energetics innovation and advanced manufacturing.
