Dr. Sandusky received a Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1976 and then pursued research in detonation physics at the Naval Surface Warfare Center for 41 years. He primarily studied hazards and survivability from heating, burning, high inertial loads, impact, penetration, and shock. These experimental studies also required elucidation of the mechanisms, development of the necessary constitutive relations for models, and finally validation of the models. A secondary area of study was development of explosives for insensitive munitions that maintain performance requirements. Now as a research engineer with ETC, he mentors and consults with the group from which he retired.
